MRI CSF Flowmetry in Differentiation between Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and Involutional Brain Atrophy

چکیده
Background: Phase contrast (PC) cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valuable method in estimating cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics that concerns several disease processes. The aim of this work was to estimate the usefulness cine- PC MRI CSF flowmetry patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and differentiate them from involutional brain atrophy.
Methods: This prospective study included 30 overlapping symptoms NPH changes 10 healthy volunteers as controls no clinical results. Two planes were applied: one sagittal plane velocity encoded caudo-cranial direction for qualitative assessment & axial through-plane quantitative measurements.
Results: Pathological flow NPH, peak systolic SV values greater than controls; these findings imply cases had hyper dynamic aqueductal flow. In cerebral atrophy, blood reduced; we reported lower compared participants, suggesting hypo circulation.
Conclusion: shown be especially elderly, diagnosing differentiating it age associated atrophy where differentiation based on conventional radiological basis may complicated.

Intracranial cerebrospinal fluid measurement studies in suspected idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus, secondary normal pressure hydrocephalus, and brain atrophy.
OBJECTIVE To investigate intracranial cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) distribution in patients with a clinical diagnosis of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH). METHODS 24 patients with a clinical diagnosis of INPH were studied. Control groups comprised 17 patients with secondary normal pressure hydrocephalus (SNPH), 21 patients with brain atrophy, and 18 healthy volunteers. Ventricular...
متن کاملGlymphatic MRI in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus
The glymphatic system has in previous studies been shown as fundamental to clearance of waste metabolites from the brain interstitial space, and is proposed to be instrumental in normal ageing and brain pathology such as Alzheimer's disease and brain trauma. Assessment of glymphatic function using magnetic resonance imaging with intrathecal contrast agent as a cerebrospinal fluid tracer has so ...
متن کاملThe relationship between CSF circulation and cerebrovascular pressure-reactivity in normal pressure hydrocephalus.
OBJECTIVE Previously, we documented association between CSF circulation and transcranial-Doppler derived autoregulation in non-shunted patients suffering from hydrocephalus. In the present study we sought to investigate the relationship between the resistance to CSF outflow and pressure-reactivity both in shunted and non-shunted NPH patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty-eight patients (47 non-...
متن کاملCSF spaces in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus: morphology and volumetry.
PURPOSE Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is an important cause of dementia in the elderly; however, idiopathic NPH is often difficult to differentiate from normal aging and vascular dementias in which brain atrophy with ventricular dilatation (hydrocephalus ex vacuo or central atrophy) is present. To elucidate the distinctive features of the distribution of CSF in idiopathic NPH, ...
متن کاملPulsatility in CSF dynamics: pathophysiology of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus.
BACKGROUND It is suggested that disturbed CSF dynamics are involved in the pathophysiology of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH). The pulsatility curve describes the relationship between intracranial pressure (ICP) and the amplitude of cardiac related ICP pulsations. The position of baseline ICP on the curve provides information about the physiological state of the CSF dynamic syst...
